Porcelain veneers, custom-made ceramic shells applied to the front of teeth, typically require enamel removal during placement and are not reversible. They generally need replacement every 10 to 20 years. In contrast, dental bonding may involve minimal enamel removal and is fully reversible, often requiring touch-ups every three to 10 years. Some dentists may refer to this as “composite veneers,” where composite resin covers the entire tooth surface. Restorative bonding procedures offer durability, natural appearance, and effectiveness, with the lifespan of the resin varying from several years to several decades. Maintaining oral hygiene is crucial for prolonging the lifespan of the restoration. Using a soft or electric toothbrush is recommended to prevent erosion, while avoiding acidic foods and activities that may cause tooth damage or chipping is advised. Although bonding material is resilient, it may not match the strength of dental crowns for long-term restorations. For individuals seeking durable restorations, Metro Decatur Dental Group PC in Redan, GA provides expert dental crown services.
